Washington Chapter DAR

The Washington Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution met at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 4, at Halcyon House in Washington. Fourteen members, two pending members and one guest attended the meeting.

Regent Julie Mangold called the meeting to order. Chaplain Dorothy Miller read from 2 Samuel 22:33 and led in the Ritual and Pledge of Allegiance.

Vice Regent Nancy Anderson read excerpts from the President General?s message, which included interesting information regarding the DAR founders. Two founders were from the North and two were from the South. Their inspiration to form DAR came from their desire to stop the selling of the grave of George Washington?s mother.

The cabin committee reported that work is continuing on placing a large beam to support the upper loft area, and other necessary repairs. Upgrades to the electrical and security systems are also in progress.

The officers for 2015-16 were installed. Nancy Anderson will decorate the grave of the patriot buried in the Brighton Hillcrest Cemetery.

Regent Mangold adjourned the meeting. Nancy Anderson conducted a memorial service for deceased members. Julie Mangold also read from a children?s book titled ?Rutherford B, Who Was He?? by Marilyn Singer and John Hendrix. The poems were delightfully illustrated and the information entertaining.

The next meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., June 1 at the Halcyon House. The Washington Chapter of DAR welcomes new members. Anyone interested should contact Julie Mangold at 319-698-2033, or any of the other members.
