At the conclusion of the Washington County Beef Weigh-in on Dec. 13, 98 Washington County 4-H?ers and FFA members have enrolled and weighed in 180 market beef animals for the 2014-15 year. According to Amy Green, 4-H/Youth Coordinator, others will continue to enroll through surrounding county weigh-ins held later this month and next.
4-H?ers and FFA members had the option of nominating market beef for State Fair and/or Ak-Sar-Ben. Those animals nominated were weighed, tagged, retinal scanned or DNA collected at the weigh-in. Thirty-five calves were nominated for State Fair and 13 for the Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Livestock Show.
4-H beef superintendent and volunteers, 4-H and Youth Committee members, County Council members, Extension Staff and 4-H families assisted with the annual weigh-in. Thank you to those who helped with the planning, organization, and carrying out of the weigh-in successfully.
4-H families will need to verify those market beef weights between Dec. 19 and Jan. 31, through 4hOnline. Please contact the Extension Office at 319-653-4811 with any questions on this process.
