Washington County Corn and Soybean Growers announce scholarship winners

The Washington County Corn and Soybean Growers Association offer a $500 scholarship to a Washington County senior with plans to enter an accredited program with a minimum completion time of two years. This scholarship is not restricted to students majoring in an agricultural field. This year the scholarship was awarded to five outstanding Washington County senior students: Brody Miller, Mid-Prairie HS; Ellie Bell, Washington HS; Leah Evans, Washington HS; Leah Marek, Washington HS and Sophie Bell, Washington HS.
' Brody Miller is the son of Kevin and Brenda Miller of rural Wellman. He plans to attend Kirkwood Community College with a major in Agricultural Business. Miller plans to return to the home farm and own and operate an ag related business after college.
' Ellie Bell is the daughter of Lance and Kerri Bell of rural Keota. Bell plans to attend Kirkwood Community College as an Ag Transfer student and then on to Iowa State University to pursue an Agricultural Education Degree to be an Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor upon graduation.
' Leah Evans is the daughter of Tom and Julie Evans of rural Washington. Evans plans to attend Kirkwood Community College in Animal Science. After attending KCC she intends to transfer to Iowa State University to obtain her Ag Degree in Animal Science to pursue a career in Animal Nutrition.
' Leah Marek is the daughter of Tim and Heather Marek of rural Riverside. Marek plans to attend Iowa State University majoring in Global Resource Systems in hopes of obtaining employment in the area of global relations.
' Sophie Bell is the daughter of Lance and Kerri Bell of rural Keota. Bell plans to attend Kirkwood Community College as an Ag Transfer student in Agricultural Business/Agronomy. She plans to transfer to Iowa State University to pursue an Agricultural Business/Agronomy Degree in hopes of obtaining employment in this field and eventually taking over the family farm and expanding the crop production acres and cattle herd.
