Washington County Corn Growers wins award

The Washington County Corn Growers and the Iowa Corn District 9 Committee won the Iowa Corn Best Grassroots Activity of 2016 for their RAGBRAI promotional event at Washington County Corn Growers President Lance Bell?s cropland on July 29 near Washington. They received their award at the Iowa Corn Growers Association Annual Grassroots Summit held recently in Cedar Rapids.

The Washington County Corn Growers and the Iowa Corn District 9 Committee worked together to plan and organize their grassroots display featuring a combine, sprayer and the Iowa Corn Mobile Education Trailer for their special RAGBRAI event along the route that brought in thousands of bicylists from around the United States. The corn growers prepared 1,200 ears of sweet corn, grilled and gave away 500-plus pork burgers donated by the Washington County Pork Producers, and gave away water bottles with Iowa Corn coozies to the bicyclists. Iowa Corn T-shirts were given to those who stopped in to enjoy the grassroots efforts of the Washington County Corn Growers and Iowa Corn District 9 Committee members, too.
