Washington County Fair projects honored
Jul. 29, 2021 11:33 am
Around 40 youth and a standing room only audience gathered Thursday, July 22 around the Lions Club Stage at the Washington County Fair to receive their State Fair plaques and public recognition for being selected as a State Fair project award winner. These projects will be on display representing Washington County 4-H at the Iowa State Fair Aug. 12-22 in Des Moines. 766 non-livestock exhibits were entered at the Washington County Fair in the 4-H/FFA static contest. Only 45 can be selected to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair.
In addition to the State Fair plaques, several County Project Awards have been given to non-livestock entries. These projects ranged from food and nutrition to home improvement to science and engineering and garden ideas. They were evaluated on July 17 through conference judging with judges from around the state who have been trained through the Iowa 4-H program.
These County Project Awards are supported by trophy donors who have an interest or business in that particular project area. They were on display all week with the nonlivestock displays in Dallmeyer Hall at the county fair.
