Washington County Fair starts with 4-H clothing event

Seventeen 4-H'ers and four Clover Kids participated in the Washington County Clothing Event on Sunday, July 11 at the Washington County Extension Office. The event was an early start to the fair, which runs from Sunday, July 18 to Friday, July 23.
4-H members have the option of three categories to participate in: $15 Challenge, Clothing Selection or Fashion Revue. In the $15 Challenge category, 4-H’ers shopped for second-hand items totaling $15 or less. This excludes accessories, undergarments and shoes. The Clothing Selection category is purchased clothing and Fashion Revue category is a constructed outfit.
In the Senior $15 Challenge division, Kayla Cerny received a lavender and Jenna Messer, Zoe Fisher, and Kelsi Cerny received blues. One senior 4-H’er, Taylor Garman of the 76 Progressives 4-H Club, was chosen to represent Washington County at the Iowa State Fair Awardrobe Event in the $15 Challenge. In the Senior Clothing Selection division, Jenna Messer of the Washington Go-Getters 4-H Club was selected for the State Fair. In the same class, Taylor Garman received a lavender and Delaney Gerot, Zoe Fisher, and Isadora Goode received blues. In the Senior Fashion Revue, Zoe Fisher of the Limecreek Limelights 4-H Club was selected for the State Fair and Isadora Goode received a lavender. The State Fair Awardrobe Clothing Event will be held on Thursday, Aug. 12.
In the Intermediate $15 Challenge division, Ava Greiner received a purple, Adrianne Blauvelt received a lavender, and Madison Richardson and Paige Malichky received blues. In the Intermediate Clothing Selection division, Ava Greiner received a purple, Adrianne Blauvelt received a lavender, and Adyson Gerot and Paige Malichky received blues.
In the Junior $15 Challenge division, Marlee Greiner received a purple and Meredith Campbell received a lavender. Receiving blues were Morgan Bruty, Charlee Read, and Ella Greiner. In the Junior Clothing Selection category, Morgan Bruty received a purple, Marlee Greiner received a lavender, and Ella Greiner received a blue.
A Style Revue for the public will be held at the Washington County Fair on Wednesday, July 21 in combination with the Share the Fun Event and several Educational Presentations at the Washington Community Center with 4-H members and Clover Kids participating together.
Clover Kids gained experience at the Washington County Fair Clothing Event. Clover Kids are invited to participate as 2nd and 3rd graders to learn more about the clothing project area and develop communication skills. Clover Kids were paired up with an older 4-H’er who served as mentor to them. Those participating as the 4-H mentors were back row: Delaney Gerot, Taylor Garman, Zoe Fisher, and Jenna Messer.
