The Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) gave a donation to the Washington County Fair Association for their Northside Restroom Project. The $25,000 donation will go towards construction costs of the fair’s new restroom facility. Work began on May 23 as Leichty & Son Construction, Inc started the removal process of old concrete and digging for the footings. Fair board representatives say they are hoping to have it completed by the county fair. Fair board member Jason Longbine commented, “So far, we have had nothing but positive comments about this project and many people are excited for the ADA accessibility of these restrooms. We are very thankful for WEDG’s support of this project.”
The restrooms will be another permanent, ADA accessible restroom with five stalls for women, two stalls/four urinals for men plus 2 family bathrooms. Each of the family bathrooms will contain a toilet, sink, hand dryer/towels and an adult changing table. The access into the facility will be level and easy to use for a stroller, wheel chair or walker. Board member Tom Evans also said, “We are really trying to improve the ADA features of the whole fairgrounds, it’s just going to take us a little time.”
The Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) is a local, public-private partnership, 501(C) (6) non-profit organization formed in 1986. It grew out of a private, community based for-profit development corporation, Washington Industries, Inc. that was formed in the 1950s to provide leadership and direction to enhance economic development efforts for the benefit of the greater Washington area. In today’s economic environment, a holistic approach is required when addressing economic and community development. Bring people together, identify opportunities and implement solutions.
