Washington County 4-H will again offer the Share-A-Calf program this year for 4-H and FFA members wanting to exhibit in this class at the Washington County Fair.
This is a unique opportunity that allows 4-H?ers to get paired with a beef producer in the county to get a calf in December that is shown against other Share-a-Calf projects at the fair. This partnership serves as great references to breed, feed and grooming questions.
Another advantage of the share-a-calf program is that the 4-H?er or FFA member does not have to pay for the calf until it is sold after the county fair. All Washington County 4-H?ers and FFA members are eligible to apply.
The champion share-a-calf then shows again the Grand Champion drive, and is also able to compete in the carcass and showmanship classes as well.
Applications are due by Nov. 10, to the Washington County Extension Office. They are available from the Washington County Extension Office or the website at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington/page/member-infoContact the Washington County Extension Office, 319-653-4811.
