The Washington County Cattlemen?s Association will again sponsor the Share-A-Calf program again this year for 4-H and FFA members wanting to exhibit in this class at the Washington County Fair.
This is a unique opportunity that allows 4-H?ers to partner with a Washington County cattlemen to get a calf in December that is shown against other share-a-calves at the fair. The cattlemen serve as great references for breed, feed and grooming questions. Another advantage of the program is that the 4-H?er or FFA member does not have to pay for the calf until it is sold after the county fair. All Washington County 4-H?ers and FFA members are eligible to apply.
New this year, the Washington County Cattlemen will be sponsoring a prize of $150 to first place and $100 to second place. The champion share-a-calf then shows again at the Grand Champion drive. They are able to compete in the carcass and showmanship classes as well.
Applications are due by Nov. 15, to the Washington County Extension Office. They are available from the Washington County Extension Office or the Web site at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/washington/news/washington-county-share-calf-applications-due-november-15. Contact the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811 or a cattlemen member with any questions.
