Flying Pigs Duathlon planned Saturday
The Flying Pigs Duathon is set from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at YMCA of Washington, Iowa.
The race will consist of a 5K run, a 20-mile bike ride and a 1.5 mile run.
Registration is at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8 a.m.
Individuals or teams of two can participate.
Individual categories are according to age: 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, and 50-plus.
Individual Awards are: first-place overall male/female trophy and pork loin; first-place male/female for each age category; and all finishers will receive a medal.
Teams can be male or female, age 13 and up, with one runner and one biker.
Team Awards are for first- and second-place.
A fee is charged to participate. The proceeds will be used to purchase equipment for the new YMCA facility.

Registration for new Renegade Run underway at YMCA
A Renegade Run is planned Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Shiloh Grounds in Kalona, with registration is at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 9 a.m.
The YMCA of Washington County is hosting the new event and is teaming up with the Washington County American Cancer Society. Proceeds will benefit both nonprofit groups.
The obstacle mud run is in honor of those who have fought courageously and those who are currently battling cancer.
Participants can conquer the challenge individually or as a team.
Course levels are: Course A (advanced) for 16-year-olds and up; and Course B (beginner) for 6-year-olds and up.
All finishing participants will be awarded a medal as they cross the finish line. Homemade cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate will be served.

Rubio Music Jam planned Saturday
The Rubio Music Jam is set for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Rubio Train Depot in Rubio.
Everyone is welcome to play, eat and have fun. All food and activities are offered for free will donations.
The music jam is scheduled for the first Saturday of each month.
Sports equipment exchange Saturday
The Washington YMCA, in collaboration with the Washington Middle School Parents Involved in Education and the Washington Community School Distict, has a sports equipment exchange program.
The equipment exchange will be open from 9 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of each month, including Saturday, Sept. 7, and by appointment.
Donations of sports equipment are accepted during the open hours and also by appointment.
