To kick off the 2020 National FFA week Washington FFA traveled to Fairfield to compete in career development events. Career development events are contests created to motivate and challenge FFA members to grow their knowledge and skills in various events. Washington FFA had 21 members participating in welding, parliamentary procedure, conduct of meetings, ag broadcasting, ag sales, FFA creed speaking, job interview, chapter test and public speaking.
Two members participated in the welding competition. Stephen Graham received a gold rating and advanced to districts with his weld. Caden Evans and Stephen Graham received a gold in team welding and are also advancing. Our chapter president Sophie Bell received a gold rating and is advancing to districts in the ag sales contest. In this competition she 'sold” dust, a planter seed lubricant to the judges.
Ellie Todd gave a powerful speech in the public speaking contest. She received a gold rating and is advancing to districts. Ellie Bell participated in the ag broadcasting event and received a gold, advancing her to districts. Abby Renoux did creed speaking, where she recited the FFA creed, and received a gold rating advancing her to districts.
Haylie Trowbridge and Kyleigh Dolan took a chapter test, which asks them questions about the history of FFA, both of them received gold ratings. Conduct of meetings team which included Iris Petersen, Charley Stoutner, Ava Wulf, Jarrod Hoyle, Gavin Griener, Hayden Janecek, and Curtis Stender received a bronze rating.
This team showed how a meeting would be run and demonstrated two items of business. The parliamentary procedure team consisting of Cooper Reed, Sydney Cuddeback, Olivia Marek, Taylor Brinning, and Leah Evans received a silver rating. They demonstrated five abilities and items of business to the judges. Leah Marek competed in the job interview event, where she participated in a mock job interview. She received a gold rating and is advancing to districts.
Washington FFA is so excited to have so much success at sub-districts. These members have put in a lot of hard work and are happy for the opportunity to compete at districts. We wish our members luck as they head to districts on to Louisa Muscatine to compete on March 14
