The Washington High School Class of 1974 met for their 50th class reunion the weekend of June 28-30.
The weekend began with an informal gathering at JP’s on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, classmates met for a photo at the Washington mural. Following the photo, reunion planner Jean Frazer had arranged for tours of the police station, fire station and the new Y. Mayor Millie Youngquist joined the tour to provide a tour of city offices and the council chambers. At the conclusion of the tours, the group stopped at the Northside Diner to either view the transformation from the Winga’s they remembered, or enjoy lunch.
The main event began at 5:30 at the Washington Golf and Country Club with 89 classmates and family members in attendance. Special guests were former teachers Mary Atwood, and Gary and Virginia McCurdy. A table was set up with pictures and flowers in memory of deceased classmates. After a group photo, Sandy (Lewis) Suter led the class in prayer before the meal.
After the meal, Jean Frazer thanked everyone in attendance, and those who had helped with planning and preparation. Nancy (Rae) Kielty was recognized for traveling the longest distance, Paul Shelangoski for attending his first reunion, and Randy and Suzi (Vacha) Jeffries for the classmates who had reconnected and married 50 years after high school. Perfect attendance certificates were given to classmates who have attended every reunion: Peggy (Llewellyn) Neff, Sue (McClure) Norman, John Harris, Peg (Moore) Harris, Jean (Soucek) Gloyer, and Jean Frazer.
On Sunday morning, 23 classmates and spouses met at Dodici’s for brunch.
The committee for the 55th reunion to be held in 2029 will be Kathy (Vittetoe) Thornton, Sharon (Eaton) Billing, and John and Peg (Moore) Harris.
