May at the library brings you a variety of adult programming. May 9th and 10th we will be continuing our Happy Ukulele Group with Clyde Pearce leading the group. Even if you don’t play, like me, please join us to sing along, not like me!
Tuesday, May 17th we are continuing with our musical theme. At 2pm we are thrilled to host a concert featuring the University of Iowa ArtShare students, who are performing chamber music.
Wednesday, May 18th, the library is excited to bring together two local authors for a reading and signing. This will be the start of an ongoing program of authors showcasing their work and their process. Summer Lisk, author of “23 Summers To Go”, shares her story of struggling with anorexia. John Bain, author of “Christie’s Journey”, has written about his daughter’s medical issues and recovery. Both authors’ books have a focus on the power of faith and love of family.
We now have 3 book club choices to offer! The first one is the “Book Ladies…and Gents” book club. This has a different structure than other book clubs. We choose a book following a theme, so everyone picks a title they want to read. In May, we are in France! Each person will pick a book set in France or written by a French author. We will be meeting to enjoy delicious croissants and we will also be viewing “Julie & Julia”, which is about Julia Child. Please call the library to register.
Our newest book club is the “Brand New” Book Club, which has the same structure as the Book Ladies. We each choose a title from the NEW shelf, whether it be fiction, nonfiction, or biography. Everyone loves to read something new and this way each person can hear about other new materials available at the library.
We have a unique book club that partners with the Washington YMCA called the “Cards & Coffee” Book Club. This group reads the same title and has the discussion at the new YMCA. This group also views the movie, at the library, that coordinates with the book. Please feel free to join the discussion and/or the movie, even if you haven’t read the book. You can call the library to register. Again, nothing beats good conversation, so join us!
