Washington library plans summer activities for children, adults

Excitement and fun await those who journey to the Washington Public Library and participate in the summer reading program, Find Your Voice. During June and July, the library will host a range of free activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants can win awesome prizes for reaching their reading goals!
There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading over the summer prevents summer reading loss. Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their own interests. We are committed to supporting lifelong learning and educational enrichment for all families.
We have fantastic, free family events for you to enjoy this year:
● Musician Chad Elliot, Tuesday, June 6 at 10 a.m., Central Park
● ISU Insect Zoo, Tuesday June 13, 2-4 p.m., Library Meeting rooms
● Grout Museum, Friday, June 23 at 10 a.m., Central Park
● Magician David Casas, Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m., Central Park
● Life size Candyland June 28-30
● Musician, Mike Anderson, Friday, July 7 at 10 a.m., Central Park
● Musician Duke Otherwise, Tuesday, July 11 at 1 p.m., Central Park
● Chalk the Walk Town Square edition, Thursday July 13, 10 a.m. to noon. Bring chalk and decorate the town square with your beautiful chalk art. It will be a great event to have before farmers market!
● Cold Blooded Redhead reptiles, Saturday, July 15 at 10 a.m., Library Meeting Rooms
● Foam Zone, Thursday, July 27 from 10-11:30 a.m., Central Park
If it rains for any of the events, it will be held in the library meeting rooms.
Registration begins May 1 and will end May 31. As always, Summer Reading is free and open to all! We can’t wait to learn, grow, and create with you this summer!
