The new year is almost upon us and here at the Washington Public Library we have been planning 2024 programs and events for many months. I am finishing up all the details for our upcoming Fiber Arts February, which is going to be as spectacular as ever. This yearly celebration is only possible with the community’s involvement and commitment. One of our planned events is a Quilt Crawl and you can help!
Fiber Arts February will be hosting the Quilt Crawl from February 22-24. We are partnering with the United Presbyterian Church and Art Domestique on this event.
Participants will proceed from the United Presbyterian Church, to Art Domestique, to the Library, or really in any order they would like, to view the quilts. Currently we have two fiber artists, MaryKaye Hymes and Wendy Reed, who will be exhibiting their quilts at Art Domestique for the entire month of February.
The Library will be exhibiting the plastic waste quilts of artist Erik Jon Olson in our Helen Wilson Gallery. Therefore, we are looking for your interesting or unique community quilts to exhibit at the UP Church.
The quilts can be old or new, traditional or avant-garde, anything that is a little extra special because of its history or its beauty. We have a limit of 25 quilts which will be displayed over pews at the church on Thursday, February 22 from 4-7 pm, Friday, February 23 from 10 am-5 pm, and Saturday, February 24 from 9 am-1 pm. If you chose to display a quilt we will also ask you to be an attendant for a two-hour shift on one of these days. We will also need a short description or “story” on index cards to accompany your piece with your name and contact information.
Stop by the Washington Public Library or call 653-2726 to sign up for the quilt spot and attendant shift and you can be an important part of Fiber Arts February 2024.
