La Onda Multicultural Group hosted a lock-in activity at Washington High School on Friday, Dec. 20, from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21. The lock-in was the first La Onda activity this year to commemorate the group's 20th anniversary.
La Onda was formed during Washington High School's 1999-2000 school year, starting off with six members in the newly-formed school club. Today, the group has 32 members and includes multicultural students, bilingual students, as well as monolingual students. The group's main focus is to 'unite all cultures”.
The student participants at the lock-in event received a surprise visit from eight La Onda alumni guest speakers, who described their participation in La Onda in years past and what La Onda meant to them as students at Washington High School. Then, the eight alumni and current La Onda members formed teams to participate in a few rounds of La Onda History Trivia led by the group's advisor, Heather Lujano.
