Mar. 1, 2024 1:18 pm
Washington High School graduate Bailey Rees (Class of 2023) has been selected by the World Food Prize Foundation to work as a George Washington Carver Graphic Design Intern.
Rees was among eight students selected for the distinguished George Washington Carver (GWC) Internship program this spring. Each academic semester and summer, highly qualified students are selected for this unique opportunity. Rees assumed the role of Social Media intern, creating print, website, and other digital materials, scratch while supporting the Communications team with research and administrative tasks.
“Through this internship, I hope to grow my understanding of nonprofit work and learn more about how my skills can have a positive impact on the world,” said Rees.
Bailey is a first-year student at Drake University, and joins a team of interns from other local colleges, including DMACC, Grand View University and Iowa State University. Other interns are developing professional skills in areas like communications, international dialogues, graphic design and youth programming.
Bailey will be paired with a mentor from the World Food Prize Foundation, who will manage her projects and guide her experience, providing expert knowledge when necessary. The internship is designed to focus on developing Bailey’s professional and educational experience. Additionally, this internship provides her with numerous opportunities to make a tangible impact on the community and contribute to ending world hunger in alignment with the World Food Prize's mission.
"We believe in cultivating an environment where interns feel encouraged to reach higher levels of professional development and specialized capabilities,” said Mashal Husain, Chief Operating Officer, World Food Prize Foundation. “This internship provides an unique insight into the organizational goals of the World Food Prize Foundation, while allowing students to develop professional skills in uncommon career areas.”
