Are you just itchin’ to get out of the house and go on a trip? Well, we have a deal for you.
The Washington Public Library is pleased to offer a series called Armchair Adventures, and this month Kathleen Almelien will take us on two tours of Norway. For their 50th wedding anniversary gift to each other, Jim and Kathleen Almelien did a deep dive into visiting Norway. They visited sights between June 6 through July 1, 2023. They traveled first to see family, friends, students, museums and sights by rail and then finished their travels with the Vesterheim Coastal tour.
The group of 36 started in the beautiful Hardanger fjord and then on a mail ship up the North coast of Norway to the Russian border. From Kirkenes, they flew back to Oslo, the country’s capital.
On Tuesday, March 12 at 2 p.m., Kathleen will give a presentation called Norway by Land where she will take you to visit Oslo, Lillihammer, Gjorvik, and Trungen. Participants will be stopping at museums and sights of interest and then travel North, South and over the Norwegian mountains by rail.
The following week on Tuesday, March 19 at 2 p.m., Kathleen will give a second presentation called Norway by Sea. On that trip, you will stop and visit the coastline ports on the mail route, study the Sami people and the Russian border, and learn about the cod fishing industry.
Please join us for one or both of these Armchair Adventures! They are free and open to the public. What an easy way to “get away” on a European trip from the comfort of your chair at your Washington Public Library.
