'How many languages do you speak?” That sentence reveals a U.S. American perspective, since around the world speaking multiple languages is the norm. Why are we different? Should we limit ourselves? It has been said that you are as many languages as you speak. That makes many Americans one-dimensional. Yet there are over 350 different languages spoken in the U.S., and 24 regional dialects of English.
For those curious about language visit the current exhibit at the Washington Free Public Library. There are (free) resources there, including many digital offerings. And for those who want to take their curiosity further drop in on the Spanish Wayfarers Association gathering at Halcyon House every Friday at 10:30 a.m., in the Marshall Game Room.-1015 South Iowa Ave, Washington. It's also free, and participants receive learning materials to take home. The class is open to the public. No previous Spanish language skills required. However, those who are already fluent are encouraged to join as well.
