The Wayland Lions Club held its April meeting on Tuesday, April 21, at the Wayland Community Center.
President Tim Egli called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Roth gave the Invocation. The meeting was adjourned for a delicious meal.
When the meeting was called back to order, Terry Kaufman gave the treasurer's report and secretary Carol Shumaker read the minutes. Both were approved as reported.
Members voted for the 2015-16 Club Officers: Ron Marsh, president; Gail Winker Simmering, secretary; Terry Kaufman, treasurer; and Roger Roth, Membership chairman
Lions' Global Membership coordinator, Brian Pattyson, updated the club on the District 9SE Convention held April 10-11 in Oskaloosa. There were 120 District 9SE Lions who attended the interesting seminars that promoted leadership through Lion programs and projects.
The Wayland Lions Club was awarded a PRIDE AWARD at the convention acknowledging them for having the largest membership gain of District 9 SE's 49 Lions clubs, with a 16 percent increase. Pattyson presented the award to Wayland Lions Membership chair, Roger Roth for the excellent membership achievement under his leadership.
The Wayland Lions approved a scholarship to be presented to a WACO Leo student acknowledging his or her hours of service and dedication to the communities served.
District 9SE Alert Chair, Marianne Pattyson, shared a popular program she just introduced at the District Convention. It is a reusable Survival Rescue Blanket that was developed and used for NASA space exploration.
The club purchased the survival rescue blankets and is offering them for sale at the July 4 breakfast, with proceeds going toward Wayland Lions community projects.
The Wayland Lions are honored to serve their communities and are always looking for like-minded citizens to join them. For more information, call Terry Kaufman at People's Bank 256-2131.
