Wayland Lions Club

The Wayland Lions Club met Tuesday, March 17, at the Washington Pizza Ranch after touring the Kirkwood Regional Center.
The Kirkwood Regional Center Tour was given by Kierstan Peck, who showed members the various classrooms, equipment and computer technology available for the students to use during their classes to prepare them for rewarding careers. The 13 attending Wayland Lions and two guests found the tour to be interesting, informative and a fine way for students to prepare themselves for successful, rewarding and lucrative careers.
President Tim Egli called the meeting to order at Pizza Ranch and Carol Shumaker read the minutes for the last two meetings, which were approved. Terry Kaufman gave the treasurer?s report, which was approved.
Global Membership coordinator, Brian Pattyson gave a District 9SE Convention brochure to each attending member to remind the Lions that the District 9SE Convention would be held in Oskaloosa on Friday and Saturday, April 10-11.
The Wayland Lions members were encouraged to attend and take advantage of several informative clinics and seminars. All in attendance were given an Ask 1 Membership Pin. Afterward, Brian read some of the results of the feed-the-lion suggestion box.
Jay Meyer held the annual KidSight Program in Crawfordsville Elementary School at 9 a.m. Monday, March 9. There were 14 students screened. Jay announced that all students will need an eye exam by May 1, 2015, before entering the school term by Iowa law. Lions Clubs International Kidsight screening is free to these students.
The Wayland Lions Club approved a donation to the Iowa Lions Club Foundation, which supports the following: Iowa School for the Deaf, puppy program at Iowa prison that trains seeing-eye dogs, Iowa Lions Hearing Aid Bank, Iowa Lions Eye Banks, Education for the Blind ? Braille Challenge, Iowa KidSight program and Lion Cochlear Implant Center.
Lion Zone Chair and First Vice District Governor Don Foor reminded the Wayland Lion members that the Iowa Lions are looking for candidates to attend Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute to be held July 24-26, at Jamestown University, N.D. The course provides emerging Lion leaders with modules on communication skills, team building, delegation, management of change, conflict management, project management, diversity, time management, motivation, goal setting/action plans and leading effective meetings. Don had just returned from two leadership courses preparing him for the 9SE District Governor position he will begin on July 1, 2015. Don is looking for talented leaders who would be interested in being part of his cabinet during his term as district governor.
Wayland Lions Club will meet again on Tuesday, April 21, at the Wayland Community Center at 6:30 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please notify Terry Kaufman at 319 256-2131, so he can include visitors in the meal count.
