The Wayland Lions Club held its April 16, meeting at the Wayland Community Center. There were 15 members in attendance.
President Bill Grimm called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Roth gave the Invocation, then the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.
When the meeting resumed, there were two guest speakers. Jill Venden, of Compassus, spoke about Hospice & Palliative Care 'and how they make a difference in someone's life,” she said. Jacob Eichelberger and Braden Duwa explained the program of the WACO Trap Club, the commitments of the program and its rewards.
Brian Pattyson read the minutes of last meeting and Terry Kaufman gave the treasurer's report, which were both approved.
The meeting went on to discuss old business. The membership sponsored Wayland's annual Easter Egg Hunt last weekend. They will be sponsoring a blood drive at the Wayland Community Center on June 6, and the Annual Pancake Breakfast on July 4.
It was agreed that the Lions Clubs International Insurance Policy would be in place for required events and Grimm is handling the necessary applications.
Brian Pattyson discussed the District 9SE Convention held in New London on April 12 to 13. The following topics include:
1. ESight Visor presentation by Kevin Holland, who benefited from the visor's long-distance sight opportunity;
2. Lions Code of Ethics presented by PDG Debbie Doty;
3. Elizabeth Atkins described her experience as president of the Danville Leos and what the Leo Program offers to youth in serving their community and developing skills for further education and careers;
4. International Director of Lions Clubs International, Geoffrey Wade, discussed diabetes and retinopathy and Lions' role in prevention;
5. A memorial service was held for 21 Iowa Lions in District 9SE. Larry Meyer was honored for 39 years of service as a Wayland Lions Club Member.
Moving on to new business, the Lions approved a scholarship for Caitlin Sells; a donation for the WACO Trap Club; a donation made to the Feed the Hungry program; a donation for Iowa Lions Foundation for the various programs they sponsor; and building an assistance structure for a community member was completed.
The meeting ended at 7:45 p.m.
