Wayland Lions Club hears update on American flag program

The Wayland Lions Club held its May meeting at the Your Choice Restaurant. There were 12 members present.
President Gary Lauger opened the meeting and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Roger Roth gave the invocation.
Secretary Bill Grimm read the minutes of the last meeting and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s report.
The member’s discussed establishing a date to allocate funds to various local Lions Clubs organizations and Lions Clubs International funds. The month of September was chosen for determining the amounts to distribute and the recipients.
American Flag Program update
• Lion Randy Morrow had metal insert caps built for the ground to accept the American Flags.
• Randy will prepare both Wayland Entry Sign Markers with American Flags and Solar powered Lighting. Lion Gwen DeVaul will take pictures of the installation.
• The members agreed to establish five or six zones with individual members assigned to the zones to place and retrieve the American Flags for the 5 Holidays.
July 4th Independence Day
• Eichelberger Farms provided two hogs that have been sent to the locker for preparation into sausage.
• Lion Stan Meyer is coordinating the Independence Day Pancake Breakfast.
• Breakfast will be held at the Wayland Community Center from 6:30-9 a.m.
• Three grills were volunteered to cook the sausage and pancakes.
• Wayland Lions Club; as sponsor for the Independence Day Parade, will provide the insurance for the parade through Lions Clubs International.
• Lion Bill Grim will notify Lions Clubs International of the Insurance Request and finalize the implementation.
President Gary Lauger called for intermission of the meeting, so attendees could enjoy their “Your Choice Family Restaurant” meal.
President Lauger announced that Ellie Miles was the recipient of the Wayland Lions Club Scholarship, that was presented by Wayland Lion 1st Vice President Braden Blake.
New Business
• Assistance for Hearing Aides was received from Deb Roth for an individual. The request is being reviewed for assistance; pending a doctor’s evaluation.
• Lion Gwen DeVaul requested assistance for a student needing glasses and she will coordinate the payment with Treasurer Terry Kaufman.
• The Wayland Lions Club will sponsor a blood drive to be held at the Wayland Community Center on June 3.
