Wayland Lions Club meets

The Wayland Lions Club held their Feb. 21, 2023 meeting at “Your Choice Restaurant.” There were 10 members in attendance.

President Jay Meyer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The Invocation was given by President Meyer, blessing those attending the meeting and the meal.

Lion Secretary Bill Grimm gave the minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Both were accepted unanimously. The meeting resumed after the meal.

February Old Business:

President Meyer read a Thank You Note from Lions Clubs International Foundation for our donation.

Wayland Area Children’s Organization sent an appreciation letter for a Donation from the Janet Sterling Memorial Fund.

President Jay Meyer reported that there were 23 children participating in the KidSight Program at Crawfordsville School on February 20, 2023. Participating Lion Volunteers were Jay Meyer, Stan Meyer and Carole Martins.

Lion Marianne Pattyson congratulated Lion Jay Meyer for coordinating the KidSight program over the last 10 years. During this period approximately 250+ children participated in The KidSight Program prior to entering Kindergarten; finding a few children each year needing follow-up with their Ophthalmologist. Lion Jay Meyer credited Lion Al Olson of the Washington Lions Club for the training he received on the special $10,000 camera.

Lion Brian Pattyson gave President Meyer the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, which will be presented to Dave Eichelberger for his support of the Wayland Lions Club and the Wayland Community at the March 21st meeting.

Lion Bill Shutters will be the Guest Speaker on Diabetes at the March 21 meeting.

February New Business:

Lion Stan Meyer announced that the Wayland Lions Club will be having a Blood Drive on June 1 at the Wayland Community Center. Lions Theresa and Amina Ferdig will assist in filling the time slots for the Blood Drive.

Members meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and adjourn around 7:45 to 8 p.m.
