Wayland Lions Club meets

The Wayland Lions Club held their March 21, 2023, meeting at “Your Choice Restaurant” in Wayland. There were 11 members in attendance and guest Dave Eichelberger.

In addition, WACO Agriculture Teacher Ethan Fetzer had five students perform a skit on “Avian Flu, the Ethics of Culling flocks.” The skit provided interesting facts concerning common fears of the Avian Flu and effects of Culling Flocks on a farm and the impact on the farmer, his family, and concerns of the public. There was a discussion of Pros & Cons.

President Jay Meyer called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Invocation was given by President Meyer, blessing those attending the meeting and the meal.

Lion Secretary Bill Grimm gave the minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Both were accepted unanimously.

The meeting resumed after the meal.

President Meyer presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award to Dave Eichelberger for his support of the Wayland Lions Club and the Wayland Community. The Melvin Jones Fellowship Award is recognition of a commitment to humanitarian work. The fellowship is the Lions Clubs International highest honor and represents humanitarian qualities such as generosity, compassion, and concern for others. It is named after its founder Melvin Jones.

March Old Business:

The Annual Easter Egg Hunt was finalized with volunteers arriving on April 8 at 12:30 p.m. for the 1 p.m. hunt in presence of the Easter Bunny. The Easter Egg Hunt is for 6th-graders and younger.

Lion Bill Shutters will be the Guest Speaker on Diabetes at the April 18 meeting.

District 9SE Convention was held this past Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25 at Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant Iowa. All were encouraged to attend.

Officers were elected for the 2023-2024 year which starts July 1.
