Wayland Lions Club meets

The Wayland Lions Club held its monthly meeting on Aug. 15, 2023.

Lion Brian Pattyson opened the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest Speaker Bill Shutters Blessed the meal and meeting. There were eight members, and two Guests present, Past District Gov. Bill Shutters and his wife Betty who is also a Lion.

Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Secretary Bill Grimm read the minutes from the June 2023 meeting. Both were unanimously approved.

Meeting broke for meal order.

Guest Speaker Bill Shutters was introduced by Brian Pattyson. Bill Shutters gave an informative presentation on Diabetes and is the Iowa Lions Diabetes Chair. He is also author of “The Only Constant in Diabetes is Change.” *This article is approved for publication with this newspaper article with permission of The Iowa Lion magazine. The presentation included the types of Diabetes, signs/symptoms of each type, what to watch for and how to delay onset. Emphasis was on Pre-Diabetic diagnosis and actions to be taken.

Discussed Old Business:

1. Terry Kaufman reported that President Theresa Ferdig received agreement from a Ladies group that they were willing to stuff old eyeglass cases with useful supplies to be donated by the Wayland Lions Club.

2. The ordering of Lions’ Hats, Shirts and Vests was tabled to the September meeting.

3. An email message will be sent out to Wayland Lions members regarding the Sept. 15, 2023, Concession Stand need of volunteers for the Football Game.

4. Ideas for fundraising tabled until the September meeting.

5. No New Business was discussed.

Wayland Lions Club Membership information:

• Wayland Lions Club was chartered on April 10, 1958, making April 10, 2023 our 65th anniversary! A celebration event is planned for October 2023.

• Lions Motto: “WE SERVE!”

• Members meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month.

• Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and adjourn around 7:45 to 8 p.m.
