Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Lion Brian Pattyson read the minutes from the Aug. 15, 2023, meeting. Both were unanimously approved. Meeting broke for meal order.
Guest speakers Kathy Nellor and Emily Davis were introduced by President Theresa Ferdig. The Guest Speakers presented the need for an animal shelter in Henry County which is in progress of being re-furbished in an existing building in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The presentation was for the animal shelter named “All God’s Creatures” included the following:
• The committee is looking for an Ambassador in each Henry County Community to coordinate information about the animal shelter, processing transfers of animals to the shelter and monitoring donations for the 5,000 sq. ft. building.
• “All God’s Creatures” is located at 2005 E. Washington Street, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641. The Animal Shelter can be reached at allgodscreaturesmp@gmail.com or Allgodscreaturesmp.org for those interested in an ambassador position or to contribute towards their financial goals.
• Mission includes fostering animals with Veterans, disabled, domestic abused and incarcerated inmates.
Old Business:
1. President Theresa Ferdig received 65 stuffed eye glass cases from the Ladies Group in Wayland that she had contacted. They were stuffed with useful supplies like band-aids, liquid soap, etc. to be donated by the Wayland Lions Club to pantries in Wayland and Crawfordsville. Wayland Lions Club thanks the ladies for their service and efforts.
2. The ordering of Lions’ Hats, Shirts and Vests & Ideas for further fundraising to assist Wayland Communities was tabled until the October meeting.
3. Members discussed ideas for the Wayland Lions Club 65th Anniversary:
A. The formal meeting with a Guest Speaker and Potential New Members did not receive confirmation.
B. Lion Gary Lauger suggested a meeting where the members discussed their achievements and service to the Wayland Communities individually and as a Lions Club. The premise is to discuss where we have been individually and as a Lions Club to expand and improve the service to the Wayland Communities. A Wayland Lions Club Member Profile form has been proposed for each member so all pertinent information regarding one’s service can be gathered and used for talking points during the discussion.
C. A 65th Anniversary Cake will be provided acknowledging the Teamwork of the Wayland Lions Club Members at the Nov. 21, 2023 meeting.
