Wayland Lions Club meets

The Wayland Lions Club held its August meeting at the Wayland Community Center on Aug. 18. There were 12 members present.
President Gary Lauger opened the meeting and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Roger Roth gave the Invocation.
The meeting resumed after a delicious meal prepared by Caterer Alice Hochstetler.
Secretary Bill Grimm read the minutes from the July 21, 2020 meeting; then Treasurer Terry Kaufman presented the Treasure's Report and both reports were approved.
President Gary Lauger asked for an update of the 60 Year Anniversary Patch and Lion Brian Pattyson informed the members that District Governor Bryan Bross was notified of the request and would handle the matter.
President Lauger announced that he has made arrangements for Tammy Shull of Iowa WINS to be the speaker at the Sept. 15, 2020 meeting to be held at 'Your Choice Restaurant” on Route 78, Wayland. President Lauger requested that members schedule speakers for upcoming meetings, whenever possible.
Past President Randy Morrow updated the members on American Flag Program that was implemented this year.
' Memorial Day was the first of 5 National Holidays, which saw 80 residents flying American Flags
' Flag Day was the 2nd National Holiday with 84 American Flags flying
' Independence Day (July 4th) has 87 residents participating
' Presently there are 102 participants in the Wayland American Flag Program. (The Lions Club will increase the number of American Flags in stock to meet the demand of Wayland Citizens interested in celebrating their American Heritage).
' Labor Day is the next Wayland American Flag Day, where the flags will be displayed on September 7, 2020.
' The remaining holidays for 2020 for the Wayland American Flag Program are:
1. Labor Day on Monday, September 7, 2020.
2. Veterans day on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
Other business discussed:
' Wayland Lions Club Annual Rose Sale will be utilized to fund activities to benefit the citizens of the Wayland Community. Orders must be placed no later than Sept. 11 so they can be ordered on Sept. 12. The Dozen Roses will be delivered to the home by the Wayland Lions Club members.
' If you wish be a 'New Participant” in the Wayland Lions Club Annual Rose Sale, drop off the application fee to Terry Kaufman at Peoples Bank, 201 West Main Street, Wayland prior to September 11.
