Wayland Lions Club members receive awards

The Wayland Lions Club held their January 18, 2022 meeting at the “Your Choice Restaurant.” There were 16 in attendance; including 13 members, in addition to 2 guests and Iowa Lions 9SE District Governor Nancy Love.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Braden Blake, followed by the Invocation by Lion Robert Meyer.

After the meal, District Governor Nancy Love presented the following service award and inducted the two guests as New Members to the Wayland Lions Club:

• Treasurer Terry Kaufman was presented with his 20 Year Service Chevron Award.

• President Braden Blake sponsored New Member Theresa Ferdig and New Member Sid Brooks was sponsored by Lion Ron Marsh.

In addition, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for recognition of Humanitarian work & Warren Coleman Award in recognition of a Lions dedication to serving their communities, were presented by District Governor Nancy Love to the Wayland Lions Club Members; as follows:

Melvin Jones Awards: Robert Meyer, Bill Grimm, and Randy Morrow (also received Warren Coleman Award).

New Business:

• Gwen DeVaul’s presentation of the eye glass program was discussed regarding service & products.

• Lion Stan Meyer announced that the next Blood Drive, assisted by the Wayland Lions Club, would be on June 2, 2022 at the Wayland Community Center.

• Lion Brian Pattyson requested input on scheduling the Wayland Lions Club need to use the Wayland Community Center. It was determined that the following dates should be reserved with City Clerk Bev Conrad:

1. Blood Drive---Thursday, June 2, 2022

2. Independence Day Pancake Breakfast---Monday, July 4, 2022

3. Wayland Lions Club Christmas Party---Tuesday, December 20, 2022

• The Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program was updated by Lion Randy Morrow, with a present participation of 125. The 2022 Flag Subscriptions will be going out soon.

• President Braden Blake requested that Lion Marianne Pattyson sew on the Melvin Jones Patch received for the Wayland Lions Club Banner.
