Wayland Lions Club seeks volunteers for July 4 pancake breakfast

The Wayland Lions Club held their May 21 meeting at “Your Choice Restaurant.” Attending were 6 members.
President Theresa Ferdig called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary Bill Grimm gave the Invocation and read the minutes from the last meeting. Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Both the Secretary Minutes & Treasurers Report were approved.
Old Business:
• Scholarships for WACO High School were reviewed by President Theresa Ferdig for inclusion of Silver Chords as prerequisite for the Scholarship by Wayland Lions Club. They all qualified for the Silver Chord.
• President Theresa Ferdig is coordinating the Blood Drive to be held on June 6, 2024, at the Wayland Community Center.
• The 1st Wayland Lions Clubs American Flag Program reminders have been sent out. The 2nd reminder is being sent to those who have not responded.
• The Easter Egg Hunt was thoroughly enjoyed by the participants who numbered more again this year.
New Business:
• Wayland Lions Club members were deeply saddened by the passing of Lion Roger Roth who served the Wayland Communities as a Lion for 55 years.
• Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program celebrates 5 Holidays. The cost for the Flag & Pole provided to applicants will be $35. This year’s 5 Holidays are:
1. Memorial Day---May 27, 2024
2. Flag Day---June 14, 2024
3. Independence Day---July 4, 2024
4. Labor Day---September 2, 2024
5. Veterans Day---November 11, 2024
• President Elect Carole Martins cannot fill the role of President due to work schedule conflicts. A replacement will be made at June meeting.
• Discussion of RAGBRAI was tabled until June meeting.
• In preparation for 4th of July Independence day Secretary Bill Grimm will contact Lions Clubs International to make sure the usual requirements are met. The Wayland Lions Club is looking for 5 volunteers for the 4th of July Pancake Breakfast. This is a great opportunity to serve the Wayland Communities and participate with the largest Non-Profit of its kind in the world!
• District Governor Michael Renken will attend the August 20, 2024, meeting.
• Wayland Lions Club received a Thank You Note from Roger Roth’s Family. Roger was a member of the Wayland Lions Club for 55 years.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 PM.
