Wayland Lions July meeting minutes

The Wayland Lions Club held their July 16 meeting at the Wayland Community Center. There were 16 members in attendance.

President Bill Grimm called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Bill also gave the Invocation. Then the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.

Lion Brian Pattyson read the minutes of last meeting and Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer's Report, which were both approved.

Old Business:

1. Treasurer Terry Kaufman reported on the Annual Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Wayland Lions Club. Terry informed the members that 'Free-Will Donations” were beyond expectations. These funds are used for various community projects in Wayland.

2. The potential project of repair at the Southern Methodist Church Cemetery, was held for further study, due to the need of expertise for the undertaking.

3. President Grimm read a 'Thank You” from Shauna Freitag for the donation to Young Health Family Services.

4. A note of 'Thanks” from Eldora Bushart for work performed at her home was read by President Grimm.

5. Potential Guest Speakers were discussed for future meetings.

New Business:

1. President Bill Grimm was recognized for his leadership during his term as president. Bill presided over the 60th Anniversary Dinner for the Wayland Lions Club and the Alpaca Fall Fest volunteers from Wayland Lions Club assisting District 9SE function to raise money for the Iowa Lions Foundation. The Iowa Lions Foundation supports the following entities:

' Iowa KidSight

' Lions Hearing Aid Bank

' Lions Eye Bank

' Cochlear implant at the University of Iowa

' Department of the Blind

' Iowa School for the Blind

2. Secretary Terry Kaufman was chosen by the Wayland Lions Club members as recipient of the prestigious Warren Coleman Award, recognizing a Wayland Lions Club member for their contribution to their community. Terry will be presented with the Warren Coleman Award at the Aug. 20 meeting.

3. President Grimm acknowledged and congratulated the following members for earning the Centennial Membership Awards for promoting long term membership acquisition:

' Robert Meyer, silver

' Marianne Pattyson, diamond

' Brian Pattyson, diamond

4. President Grimm is pictured presenting the Gavel to incoming President Randy Morrow, whose term is July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2020.
