Wayland’s Lions Club meets

The Wayland Lions Club held its April 16 meeting at the Wayland Community Center. There were 15 members in attendance.
President Bill Grimm called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m., and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Lion Roger Roth gave the Invocation.
Then the meeting broke for a meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.
At the resumption of the meeting, two subject guest speakers presented to the members. Jill Vendean, of Compassus, spoke about Hospice and Palliative Care and how they 'Make a Difference in Someone's Life.” Vendean can be reached at 928-899-8546 or Jill.Venden@compassus.com for those who are interested in the services they provide or want to volunteer.
The next guest speakers were Jacob Eichelberger and Braden Duwa, who explained the program of the WACO Trap Club, the commitments of the program and its rewards.
Lion Brian Pattyson read the minutes of last meeting and Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer's Report, which were both approved.
During the meeting, the Lions discussed the following.
Old Business:
' The membership will be sponsoring the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at West Park at 1 p.m., Blood Drive at Wayland Community Center on June 6, and the Annual Pancake Breakfast on July 4. It was agreed that the Lions Clubs International Insurance Policy would be in place for required events and President Bill Grimm is handling the necessary applications.
' Brian Pattyson discussed the District 9SE Convention held in New London on April 12-13. The following topics included: ESight Visor presentation by Kevin Holland who benefited from the visor's long-distance sight opportunity; Lions Code of Ethics presented by PDG Debbie Doty; Elizabeth Atkins described her experience as president of the Danville Leos and what the Leo Program offers to youth in serving their community and developing skills for further education and careers; International Director of Lions Clubs International, Geoffrey Wade, discussed Diabetes and Retinopathy and Lions role; A Memorial Service was held for 21 Iowa Lions in District 9SE; Lion Larry Meyer was honored for his 39 years' service as a Wayland Lions Club Member.
New Business:
' Wayland Lions approve Scholarship for Caitlin Sells.
' A donation was approved for the WACO Trap Club.
' A donation was made to the Feed the Hungry program.
' A donation for Iowa Lions Foundation was approved for the various programs they sponsor.
' Building an assistance structure for a community member was completed.
Official meeting ended at 7:45 p.m.
