The Fairfield Beautification Commission is pleased to announce that Nikki Weaver of 501 North Court in Fairfield is the recipient of the prestigious Rose Award for Excellence in Landscaping.
In 2013, Nikki took a bold step by purchasing this early 1900s home that needed extensive updates, both inside and out. With her dogs in tow, she was determined to find a house with a spacious backyard, and at the time, her options were limited. Nikki embraced the challenge, knowing it would take time and effort to make the home truly hers, but from the very beginning, she envisioned creating a welcoming habitat that would attract native wildlife.
Nikki began in her backyard starting her first perennial garden in the southwest corner. Over the years along with the support of gardener, Carol Morehead, she's expanded the garden, relocating perennials and introducing new varieties. Nikki’s signature style blends annuals with perennials, creating a dynamic and ever-changing landscape. Along the driveway, eight-foot-tall porcupine grass lines the fence, while vibrant perennials and zinnias frame her newly renovated front porch and the hardscape walkway leading to the enchanting backyard beyond.
A stroll through Nikki's garden showcases an impressive variety of flowers — lilies, naked ladies, black-eyed Susans, daisies, and more. Passersby can admire the colorful zinnias peeking up along the fence, adding a cheerful touch to the neighborhood.
Nikki’s transformation of this fixer-upper into a warm, inviting, and vibrant home has not only enhanced her own life but has also become a source of inspiration and joy for her neighbors, who have watched the space evolve into a truly special place.
