Welsh Hymn Sing planned June 18 at Salem Church
Jun. 1, 2022 2:34 pm
Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church is hosting a Welsh Hymn Sing (or Gymanfa Ganu) in conjunction with the Rees 100th Reunion on Saturday, June 18 at 7 p.m. The hymn sing will feature music from the country of Wales and all are invited to attend and enjoy the festivities.
Come and take part in the rich traditions of four-part singing. This year’s conductor will be Robert Evans of Bourbonnais, Illinois, who is 100 percent Welsh. He is a graduate of Northwestern University with Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees, and doctoral work completed at the University of Illinois. He has been a music educator, conductor, clarinetist, and adjudicator in Minnesota and Illinois and has taken performance groups to appear in Wales and England. He will also share his experiences traveling in Wales.
Sarah Evans Mayo will be the accompanist from Congerville, Illinois. She received her undergraduate degree in music performance from Illinois Wesleyan University, a masters in music education from Northwestern University, and is currently completing a masters degree in musicology from Bangor University.
She and her family moved to North Wales to begin the degree and have a Welsh adventure and then came back with a new baby girl, Ffion Grace. Sarah has taught and performed music in many settings and particularly enjoys combining Wales with her love of people and music.
Come enjoy a musical evening from the “Land of Song.”
Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church is located at 11999 X Avenue in Columbus Junction.
