Nov. 26, 2018 9:37 am
Eight members and two guests of the West Chester United Methodist Women's group met at the Halcyon House in Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Members enjoyed lunch at the Applewood Bistro, hosted by Letha Statler.
The program was presented by Steve Swanson, of Ollie. He is a volunteer with the Heifer Project. He told of the history of Heifer, beginning in the 1930s. It continues today, providing a variety of animals to people of Third World countries, as well as some parts of the United States. From small animals such as chickens, rabbits, and goats, to larger animals such as pigs, cattle, and water buffalo, recipients are taught how to care for them and make them a productive part of their food source. The lives of many people are improved as a result of the Heifer Project.
Nancy Schmidt provided over the business meeting. The secretary's minutes were read and approved. Doris Fisher gave the treasurer's report.
Old business included a report of the election night supper; approximately 210 meals were served, and all were thankful for their participation in making it happen.
Marsha Patterson shared information about sewing weighted lap blankets for people with special needs. She demonstrated the process as a possible sewing project for the group.
Members then visited West Chester residents living at Halcyon House: Retha Hough, Mary Sayre, Karla Brunk, and Beth Janecek.
The next meeting will be at noon, Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the United Presbyterian Home dining room, in Washington.
