Members of the White Cloud Club enjoyed their annual Club Tour Day on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023.
The day started at the Fellowship Hall of the United Church of Crawfordsville with a leisurely brunch of Egg Casserole and Coffee Cake prepared by club President Jolene Colthurst.
The next stop was to Swedesburg to tour the Swedish American Museum. Johanna Crawford was the tour guide who carefully explained each display area which recounts the passage of Swedish immigrants to America beginning in 1845 and the settling of many Swedes in this area. The museum is open Thursday through Saturday noon to 4 p.m. by appointment. Everyone felt the time there was well spent as they learned the hardships and joys of these early settlers.
The group then stopped at Boxcar Treasures to reminisce about the past by seeing a wide assortment of treasures ready for resale to shoppers coming from near and far. Jody Schmicke was very welcoming . She manages the coordination of multiple exhibitors who show and sell their treasures at this local business just south of Crawfordsville.
Now it was lunchtime at El Mariachi Restaurant in Winfield. Each ordered and enjoyed their favorite dish. President Jolene conducted a short business meeting while there. Two birthday gifts were presented. All were reminded that at the next meeting the current Mystery Sisters will be revealed and names will be drawn for new Mystery Sisters for the coming year. Also, at the October meeting there will be election of officers /committees for the new year.
The group then went next door to the Winfield Historical Society Museum. They were greeted by three ladies eager to explain the many displays of historical events held in this part of Henry County over the years since Winfield was born in 1851. Tour guides: President of the Society, Judy Ralston, Carol Klopfenstein and Tess Sommer shared information on the many artifacts. The museum is preparing to make a move to a much larger space just a block away. That building is under construction in preparation for the move. Donations to cover the costs of the project are greatly appreciated. The museum is open 10-12 on Mondays or by appointment.
On their way out of town they observed the Freedom Rock, drove past the future site of the museum and passed by the new Rick Rodgers Waterpark.
Members were once again reminded that the Oct. 3 Club meeting is to be held at 11:30 a.m. at Your Family Restaurant in Wayland.
Those enjoying tour day were Jolene Colthurst, Betty Lintz, Pat Miller, Margaret Patterson, Pauline Richardson, Virginia Sands and guest, Diane Johnston.
