Who is Jesus? When asked this question, our minds might go back to countless Sundays of Christian education or some form of indoctrination that we received as children and students. We put together as many pieces of information as we can to articulate a sentence to describe him or his character. That?s where we seem to be disconnecting. Too often we misrepresent who he actually is. We seem to have forgotten the difference between life enrichment and life change. People have walked away from the present-day church in droves because they have been given a picture of Jesus that misrepresents him. At no time in Scripture will you find that a person who accepts Jesus Christ as their savior will never experience problems anymore. It just isn?t in there. What you do find are Scriptures like Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." This Scripture does not mean God caused calamity in your life. It simply states that what the enemy has thrown at you and tried to destroy you with, God will then turn that around and the end result will be your salvation, not your destruction. God wants to be closer to us than we can even understand.
The Scriptures tell us what Jesus did come for. He came to seek and save those that were lost. He came to change our lives, not watch as we crash and burn. We must understand that our lives change when we accept Jesus Christ. He does make our life better. We don?t have to go through problems and trials alone. He is with us. His spirit gives us strength to continue our lives even though stress happens. Jesus' ultimate goal on this earth was life change. He came to restore a broken relationship between God and man. He took the sin of the world, placed it upon himself and made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and I could be changed. Yes, he makes our life better, but the saving work is his greatest goal for you and me.
