WHS Class of 1951 holds 65th year reunion

The Washington High School graduating Class of 1951 held its 65-year reunion Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15. Friday evening, classmates and spouses gathered at the Pizza Hut for a pizza party enjoyed by all.

The group attended a breakfast at the Frontier Family Restaurant on Saturday morning. Saturday evening, 32 classmates and their spouses met at the Art Domestique in downtown Washington. Black and orange were the school colors. The evening began with a social hour from 5 to 6 p.m. Melva Mineart and Shirley Steele helped with registration. Past pictures and memorabilia were displayed. The tables were adorned with candle-lighted votives and flower arrangements of gold and orange décor. Special rally flags of orange were placed on the backs of the chairs. Richard Anderson welcomed everyone, and a delicious meal was catered by Café Dodici.

Oscar Steele was the master of ceremonies. Vivian Griffith gave the invocation before the buffet dinner. Following the meal, Pat McClure gave an inspirational, honoring the deceased classmates, ending with a moment of silence.

Trivia relating to the year 1951 was given by Steele. Photos were taken by Michael York. The members? correspondence was read by Wynne Steele. The remainder of the evening was spent visiting.

Those attended were: Richard Anderson and Jean Leeper, Ray Courtney, Ron Crawford and Judy Quinn, Todd and Cheryl Crone, Dick Kennedy, Bob and Jeanette Libe, Jim Lloyd, Robert Lloyd, C.J. and Vivian (Luers) Griffith, Marvin and Patricia (Peiffer) McClure, Earl and Carolyn McClure, Melva (Schnicker) Mineart, Cheryl (Nayadley) Moothart, Harold Thoma, Mark Mosier, Martha (Whittaker) Mosier, Oscar and Wynne Steele, Clint Rila and Shirley (Potratz) Steele, Frank Stout and Margaret, Duane Thompson, Owen and Norma (Eatinger) White.

The class is tentatively planning to hold its next reunion in 2017.
