WHS Class of 1962 holds reunion

The Washington High School Class of 1962 met September 27, 28, and 29 for its 61st class reunion. There was an informal gathering at Unc-N-Neph's on Wednesday evening, September 27. Thursday events included a brunch prepared by male classmates at the Conservation Center at Marr Park near Ainsworth. Class members enjoyed a tour of the historic State Theater in Washington hosted by Mike Zahs.

Following the State Theater experience, a group tour of the new Washington Y took place at 3:00 PM. At that time class members also presented Amy Schulte, Washington County YMCA CEO, a check for $2,500 as a donation to support the new swimming pool currently under construction. Phil Foster and Sara Knupp Bartlett were instrumental in spearheading class support for the pool project.

Thursday evening, class members reconvened at the Marr Park Conservation Center for a catered meal attended by 51 members and spouses. A special guest at dinner was Mr. John Sproule of Washington who was a Washington High School teacher at the time class of 1962 members attended WHS. Geraldine Sproule attended with John. John Sproule is the only remaining high school teacher of these former students, as all others are deceased.

Following dinner, Phil Foster and Ron and Ann Stewart Marek served as emcees providing information on class members unable to attend. Mareks then led attendees in a Trivia Event based on WHS activities in the 1960s. Bob Wilcox created a moving video presentation honoring the 43 deceased classmates.

Classmates and spouses gathered Friday morning for an informal breakfast and Farewell at the Frontier Cafe in Washington.

Phil Foster chaired the Reunion Planning Committee. All planning meetings were held via Zoom. Planning Committee members were: Jim and Pat (McClure) Anderson, Sara (Knupp)Bartlett, Larry and Kay (Berkhoff) Bishop, Tom Brown, Darlene (Mills) Crabb, Betty (McConnell) Kuehn, Ron and Ann (Stewart) Marek, Gary Pribyl, Bob Wilcox, and Linda (Crone) Wood.

Attendees in addition to Planning Committee members mentioned above were: Alberta Rathmel Bonar, Connie Bennett Cheney, Gerald and Judy Donaldson, Hugh and Jane Dougall, Karen Pohren Escher, Allen and Betty Fuhr, Roy and Judy Kirkpatrick Headley, Garda McKune Huston, Keith and Melody Jarrard, Kim and Joan Schumacher Leyden, Bob Lenninger, Tony Mondia, Nancy Osincup Roselund, Joe and Judy Skubal, Allan Smith, Dana and Lynn Messer Steely, Richard and Phyllis Stout, Lorene Holden Sundquist, and Bruce and Leanna Watson. Planning Committee members' spouses in attendance were Larry Bartlett, Nelson Crabb, Jane Dougall, Sue foster, and Linda Pribyl,
