The Washington High School Class of 1965 held its 50th Reunion on July 31, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. The class social was held Friday, July 31, at the Unc and Neph?s Restaurant patio area.
Saturday, Aug. 1, provided many opportunities for classmates to gather. There was a morning coffee time at the Frontier Restaurant, golf for those interested and a tour of the newly renovated State Theater, where two of the classmates had worked while in high school. In the afternoon many classmates toured the Washington Middle School, ?their? former high school.
The well-attended Saturday evening event took place at the Wooden Wheel Winery. The class was honored to have former teacher, Jim Rosien, and his wife, Jan, in attendance, and pleased to have him share some stories with the class. The group was also thrilled to have former foreign exchange student from Japan, Yoshi Kanda, and his wife, Yoshiko, attend many of the reunion events. Yoshi?s daughter and her husband from New Jersey were also in attendance.
Following the meal Denny Coon, Class Vice-President, presided over a short class meeting. This began with a moment of silence and a special, memorial time for classmates no longer living. There was also a greatly enjoyed ?1965? video created by classmate Bob Helscher and a fun question-and-answer time by Denny Coon. There was also much laughter, reminiscing and catching up throughout the evening.
The reunion festivities ended on Sunday morning with a breakfast at the Frontier Restaurant. The WHS Class of 1965 had classmates attend their 50th reunion from Washington, Oregon, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland, as well as from many cities and towns in Iowa.
