Wigginton to speak on Ecuador
N/A
Nov. 18, 2019 12:00 am
North American churches have much to learn from their southern brothers and sisters. Peter Wigginton and his wife Delicia Bravo Aguilar, serve as Ecuador partnership coordinators for Mennonite Mission Network in Quito. Wigginton will speak on 'Teaching Peace in Ecuador” at Just Peace Outreach Group (J-POG) on Nov. 24. J-POG begins at 6 p.m. with a finger food potluck, followed by a presentation at 7 p.m.
How does the church witness to the healing power of Jesus in its community? A Mennonite mission partnership in Ecuador for 20 years has focused on welcoming refugees, teaching peace in family and community contexts, and supporting indigenous churches.
Wigginton serves with Iglesia Cristiana Anabautista Menonita de Ecuador (ICAME, the Anabaptist Mennonite Christian Church of Ecuador), through the Ecuador Partnership, an international partnership which includes the Mennonite Christian Church of Colombia and Central Plains Mennonite Conference along with Mennonite Mission Network. Their weblog is titled 'Learning about Jesus and Anabaptism alongside the Ecuadorian Church.”
The Quito church ministers to refugees from diverse nationalities. The church also offers monthly peace education workshops for children and an after-school program that gives homework help and broader learning opportunities to neighborhood children.
Join J-POG Sunday, November 24 as Peter Wigginton shares about his experiences in Ecuador. East Union Mennonite Church is located at 5615 Gable Ave, Kalona, Iowa. Arrive at 6 p.m. for informal discussion and a finger foods potluck (please bring your own table service). Wigginton's presentation will begin at 7 p.m. An offering for Ecuador will be taken.
