Sandra Williams of Libertyville Savings Bank, Fairfield and formerly the Farmers Savings Bank of Keota, was recently honored by the Iowa Bankers Association for more that 50 years of service at a bank. The award was presented to Williams during the IBA Annual Convention on Sept. 24, in Des Moines. Williams was one of 12 individuals recognized for reaching the 50-year service milestone.
'Iowa banks have been a trusted resource for Iowans for more than 100 years. We are honored to have the commitment and experience of bankers like Sandy, who have worked to provide valuable service to Iowa bank customers and their communities for more than half a century,” said IBA President and CEO John Sorensen.
The entirety of Sandy's banking career has taken place on the deposit side of the bank. She started as a proof clerk matching up notches on checks, learned many bookkeeping applications, was a teller and is currently the cheerful voice that greets you when calling the Libertyville Savings Bank, Fairfield office or walking into the loan department there. When asked which position has been her favorite, she simply replied, 'I don't have a favorite. I just like the contact with the people.”
Many changes have evolved over the last 50 years in the day to day operations of banking. Perhaps most notably, technology. When Sandy started, they were calculating and posting all accrued interest by hand. Today we bring up the account on a computer screen and there it is in front of us with the click of a mouse. Of all the changes she thinks the technological advancements have been the most profound. Direct deposit, ATMs, internet and mobile banking have really changed the industry.
