DANVILLE ? The Winfield Mt. Union boys gave Danville a sweat in the first quarter of Thursday night?s district quarterfinal but the Bears exploded in the final three periods and knocked the Wolves out, 68-28.
Brock Fricke was on fire for W-MU in the first period. He hit two threes and finished with 11 points to lead the Wolves as they kept it close, trailing 20-15 after one quarter.
The offense went cold in the second quarter, however. The Bears outscored W-MU, 21-5, to push their lead to 41-20 at halftime.
Danville continued to put the pressure on in the second half, holding the Wolves to just eight points and putting up 27 more before the game was over.
Fricke finished with 11 points on the day to lead the Wolves. Jordan Hudson had seven. Bryce Robison scored six. Cody McCreight and Christian Gerot finished with two points apiece.
With the win, Danville moves on to play Keota, who won a tight one over Pekin on Thursday night. Those two teams will play on Thursday night in Mt. Pleasant at 6:30 p.m., with the winner playing the New London-Notre Dame winner two days later.
