Winfield-Mt. Union drops opener at West Burlington

WEST BURLINGTON ? The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team fell in three sets in its season opener Thursday night. The Wolves dropped the first two gams by the same score, 25-17, and fell 25-15 in game three.

WEST BURLINGTON ? The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team fell in three sets in its season opener Thursday night. The Wolves dropped the first two gams by the same score, 25-17, and fell 25-15 in game three.
Freshman Jenna Buffington had a nice performance in her first high school game. She had eight kills in 26 attempts and added 10 digs on the defensive side of the ball.
Lexee Hartscok had six kills in 22 attempts. Lauren Jamison had two kills and led the team in assists with 14. Pearl Krieger-Coble, Maci Richardson and Liana Sweezer each had one kill in the loss.
The Wolves had a good day serving, going 47-49, with one ace by Jamison. Krieger-Coble had the best day on the serve, going 11-11.
Kyndal Townsley beat out Buffington on the digs list by one. She finished with 11 digs to lead the team. Sweezer finished with nine digs. Jami Wilkerson had seven. Krieger-Coble had four. Jamison finished with three and both Hartsock and Dakota Haines finished with one.
Hartsock led the team in blocks with one solo and three assists. Sweezer had two block assists and both Richardson and Jamison had one.
The Wolves fell to 0-1 on the season and will have a quick turnaround. W-MU will head to the West Branch tournament on Saturday, Aug. 26.
