NEW SHARON ? The Winfield-Mt. Union football team failed to pick up their first win of the season on Friday night. The Wolves battled with North Mahaska in district play, falling 26-6.
The Wolves took the early lead in the contest on a three-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Andrew Brady, but North Mahaska scored the next 26 points of the game to win the game by 20.
Brady had a nice outing, taking 26 rushing attempts for 93 yards and one touchdown. Christian Gerot ran for 21 yards on eight attempts and Josh Burroughs had one eight-yard run. John Day had three carries on the day and netted one yard.
Gerot was 6-17 for 54 yards. Brady was the leading receiver, catching one pass for 25 yards. Juanito Piper had two catches for 11 yards. Dawson Boal had one catch for nine yards. Oepping caught one pass for seven yards and Hagge caught one pass for two yards.
Piper led the defense with 10.5 tackles and there tackles for a loss. Kyle Giese finished with six tackles. Boal, Gerot, Oepping and Carter Hinkle each had four tackles.
W-MU had one takeaway on the day. Boal had one fumble recovery.
The Wolves fell to 0-8 this season. They will finish their season at New London on Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.
