The Winfield Historical Society and Museum will host their first Cemetery Walk at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery on Sunday, September 28 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
A cemetery walk is an opportunity to learn about various community members from the past and bring history to life. John Lindly, Vene and Nellie Gambell, Fran and Sonny Schwartz, Faith Felgar (Lucretia Alberta Kepper), Orrie Rew, and Caroline Thomas will be featured on the walk. An “actor” dressed in costume will portray each person and talk about their life. Visitors will be able to walk or ride in a golf cart to each featured gravesite. Be sure to start at our tent to pick up a map and sign up for a chance to win a canvas bag from the museum. Golf carts will be available to take those who do not wish to walk to each gravesite.
Freewill donations will be accepted, and refreshments will be provided. All proceeds will go to the building renovation fund. We plan to hold the Cemetery Walk rain or shine. However, in case of severe weather, listen to the radio or check Facebook for further information.
We all have a life story to share. These stories and experiences are what make us who we are. They are the legacy we leave behind. Come help the Winfield Museum preserve and celebrate the legacies of 6 community members who helped make Winfield such a special place.
