WMU students make caring baskets for nursing home residents
Jan. 26, 2022 2:07 pm
Mrs. Miller’s 4/5 class at Winfield-Mt. Union heard that the Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was going through some hard times.
The students brainstormed some ideas to help the residents get through this time of year and the current struggles they face. Miller had the students generate a list of ideas and things they would need to make these “caring baskets” happen.
Parents, teachers, and Mrs. Miller came up with supplies and the students put the care packages together.
They created paper flowers and cards of encouragement (enough for each resident) and put them with the other items. Some of the items include post-it notes, writing utensils, tissues, and lotions.
Empathy, kindness, and community support are a few of the words that explain the actions of this WMU class.
Mrs. Miller’s 4/5 grade class at Winfield-Mt. Union gave these “caring baskets” to residents of the Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winfield. Also pictured is Mikayla Truitt, from the Sunrise Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She came to WMU to pick up the items. She enjoyed hearing the students talk about why they were doing this and what everything in the care packages were for. (Photo submitted)
