BURLINGTON ? There were two very different results for Henry County baseball teams on Tuesday night in Burlington. New London moved on with a four-inning 14-1 victory over Holy Trinity Catholic but Winfield-Mt. Union dropped a 10-3 game against Burlington Notre Dame.
The Tigers scored in every inning of their contest, putting up one run in the first, two in the second, six in the third and five in the fifth. Holy Trinity scored just one run run, coming in the third.
Mason Porter had a huge night, going 3-3 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs to lead the team. Sam Loyd was 3-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Justin Henecke was 2-3 with a homer of his own, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Isaac McSorley, Tyler Stevenson and Keontae Luckett all picked one RBI on the night.
Britt Noel picked up the win on the hill for New London. He threw two and two-thirds innings and gave up just one earned run on three hits, while striking out two batters.
W-MU led 3-2 in the top of the third inning of their game. There was a short delay due to problems with the lights on the field, and unfortunately for the Wolves, it was all Nikes once the lights came on.
Notre Dame scored two runs in the third inning to tie the game and scored the next seven runs in the contest to move on.
Klayton Benedict was tagged with the loss on the hill for W-MU. They finished the year 3-20.
New London and Notre Dame will play at Highland tonight (Thursday) at 5 p.m. The Tigers recently defeated the Nikes, 9-0, in regular season play.
Pekin and Highland will play the second game on the night. The winners of those games will face off on Saturday, July 15, at 7 p.m., for the district title.
