RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL
The Jefferson County Unit of the Iowa Retired School Personnel met Wednesday at SunnyBrook for a luncheon meeting.
Special guests were John Reems, the guest speaker, and Linda Miller, president of the Mt. Pleasant chapter and representative of IRSP District 6.
Reems?s program included a talk and pictures about his Alaska adventures. Reems, who lived in Alaska during the 1970s and 1980s, shared some of his experiences ? some fun, some dangerous, some both ? during his years working in rural areas on the Alaska pipeline. Later he got his GED, went on to college, and worked in the field of adult education in Alaska.
Reems ended his program with stories of recent experiences when he traveled to a different part of Alaska, where he joined an old friend on a sailing and fishing trip on some of the roughest waters in the wilderness area of Southeast Alaska.
After the program, President Judith McDonough welcomed Miller and presented her with a rose. Miller invited members to the District 6 meeting, which will be May 4 at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
The Jefferson County Unit of the Iowa Retired School Personnel?s next meeting will be Feb. 24. The guest speaker will be an exchange student from Fairfield High School.
