Woneta D. Stewart

Woneta D. Stewart, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at the Park Place Elder Living Center, in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, at the Murphy Funeral Home, in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. David Forrester officiating. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery, in rural Rome. Friends may call after 2 p.m., on Friday, at the Murphy Funeral Home, in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening.

Stewart was born on Oct. 19, 1927, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Hubert and Versa Clark Fetterman She was united in marriage to Howard L. Stewart on Oct. 22, 1949, in Rock Island, Ill. He preceded her in death.

Following her graduation from high school, she went to work at Horner Box Factory, in Keokuk, as a bundler. Later she moved to the Container Company, in Rock Island. She also worked at several part- time jobs in the Mt. Pleasant area.

She enjoyed being outdoors, bird watching, fishing and hunting.

Stewart is survived by her children, Terrie Stewart James; Steven (Donna) Stewart; and Kellay (Kelly) McVey, all of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Nathan Fetterman, of Salem.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Virgil Fetterman.
